The objective of this study is to understand the effects of key anthropogenic stressors on fish and invertebrate populations and benthic composition in the nearshore fringing reefs along Mo’orea, French Polynesia. We will compare within and among nearshore habitats on the island that differ in proximity to anthropogenic stressors (high and low impact sites) measure these stressors, and quantify differences in target species populations (eg important fisheries and cultural species). To compare nutrient supplies we will use a bioassay, sedimentation rates with traps, sediment composition with benthic samples, and conduct observational surveys to detect differences in fishes, invertebrates, and benthic composition between sites.
