During this field season I intend to complete the second chapter of my thesis. This will include collecting terracotta recruitment tiles that I placed at our sites along the fringing reef back in May of 2023. I will need to use the Biocode lab space to process and analyze these tiles. Additionally, I plan to set up and carry out a coral settlement experiment where I will assess the rate of settlement in coral larvae in the presence of a groundwater gradient. This will entail using small tanks where I will keep adult Pocillopora acuta colonies for the duration of a lunar cycle to capture larvae and assess their settlement rates in different concentrations of groundwater.
