As research geologists of the USGS Volcano Science Center, California Volcano Observatory, we propose to undertake high-precision 40Ar/39Ar dating on fist-sized samples of basaltic lava flows from many or most of the individual eruptive centers (mostly cinder cone vents) in the Cima Volcanic Field. Our principal goal is to document the eruption ages, recurrence intervals, and episodicity of volcanism in the Cima field.
