CSU Desert Studies Center, Zzyzx

03 Nov, 03 PM - 05 Nov, 11 AM

Students will learn techniques of trapping and handling small mammals. We will set traps on a Friday evening before sunset and check them at sunrise the next day. We will repeat the sampling again on Saturday so that we can obtain data for the students to calculate population estimated using Mark/Recapture formula. Students will also learn about bat acoustics, sampling, and analysis. This part of the study is non-invasive, so no permits are required for acoustic sampling. We also conduct a demonstration of radio-telemetry techniques. This doesn't involve any use of live animals.
