Santa Cruz Island Reserve

16 Aug, 12 PM - 21 Aug, 12 PM

Funded through a CESU task agreement with Channel Islands National Park, we are conducting archaeological survey and site assessment related to post-Chumash historic archaeological resources within Park boundaries east of Prisoners Harbor, aka the Isthmus. The main foci of the broader survey, which includes the East End are: a) ranching features located outside of ranch complexes, b) fishing camps, and c) military encampments. We intend to visit to specific locations and features mentioned in written accounts including those visited and described by Livingston (2016). On the Isthmus we intend to document any visible remnants specifically of ranching-associated water systems and the telephone system (Mag Line), as well as a small army encampment.
