Santa Cruz Island Reserve

25 Sep, 11 AM - 29 Sep, 03 PM

Scope out sites, place ground control points, and collect UAS multispectral, thermal and RGB flight data from two sites. The first site will be along the upper part of the Sauces/Pozo ridge - we will drive (or walk) the short upper segment of Sauces Road and take off from the open area before the first switchback (the goal is to be able to walk to this same spot from the ridge road even when Sauces road is closed). We will fly a segment down from there along the ridge to look at fog drip and Bishop Pine health. The second site will be a small sub-watershed just down from the lower part of the Sauces/Pozo ridge on the Pozo side (near where the Pozo/Johnson road crests the ridge). We will launch from the ridge and collect data to look at the influence of fog on vegetation, and vegetation on soil and gully propagation. While there, we will download data from Kerri's soil moisture sensors and discuss plans for more sensors and potentially incorporating the existing sensors into the CHI project.
