Santa Cruz Island Reserve

09 Apr, 12 PM - 12 Apr, 03 PM

We are planning to continue to collect bees this spring to focus on collecting Andrena ssp. (Andrenidae) were found on the island. Spring collecting will focus on hand collecting rare species and recording flower visitation. We will also focus on the identification of Bombus using images (rather than collecting) in hopes of finding Bombus crotchii on the island. B. crotchii was previously recorded for SCI but has not been found since the 1990s. The collecting locations are at the main ranch chapel yard, Christy Ranch and Prisoners Harbor. Coordinates (34.001056,-119.686972),(33.991972,-119.689278),(33.997278,-119.714056),(33.991056,-119.719278),(34.018889,-119.871111),(34.022500,-119.876667),(34.017500,-119.682222). The ideal dates for the trip are April 9-12 and May 14-17. Bee collecting is done by hand net on specific plants, so we will collect bees, some plant specimens, and images of both bees and plants.
