The Dr. Nancy Foster Scholarship Program provides support for master’s and doctoral degrees in oceanography, marine biology, maritime archaeology—these may include but are not limited to ocean and/or coastal: engineering, social science, marine education, marine stewardship, cultural anthropology, and resource management disciplines, primarily for women and members of minority groups. The NOAA Office of National Marine Sanctuaries manages the Foster Scholarship Program, and two nights of the week-long orientation training and retreat for these scholars will occur at the SCI reserve station. We will primarily be meeting as a group, learning about each other's research, and discussing effective science communication techniques. We will likely want one day to explore and enjoy what SCI has to offer through hiking, snorkeling, and possibly kayaking.
