Collect specimens for continuing studies on the Cnemotettix silk-spinning crickets on the California Channel Islands and adjacent mainland. What had previously been a genus with only 1 species, we described 4 new ones largely restricted, and endemic, to the Channel Islands after having, most likely, evolved in situ on the Islands. Since 1981, I have continued investigations into the group after discovering that adult males produce species-specific drumming patterns. This information, combined with karyotype studies and DNA profiles, provides incentive to reexamine the relationships between Island endemics and those taxa on the California mainland.
