We are describing the morphology of mollic soils (thick dark, carbon rich) in forest and grassland settings. In the lab, we are analyzing the soil to compare basic soil properties between soils mapped similarly, but found under different vegetation types. Furthermore, we are analyzing the carbon pools (stable versus labile) in the soil we collect which could provide important results to carbon management in forestry and range settings.
