My name is Kimberly Yapias and I am bringing a group of 10 individuals to the Santa Cruz area as part of the Alternative Breaks program with the University of Utah to learn about Marine Conservation. Alternative Breaks mission is to engage University of Utah students, faculty and staff in community volunteerism and experiential learning. Teams of students, along with faculty/staff partners, visit and work in cities throughout the Western United States on a variety of community-identified projects to address unmet social and environmental justice needs. “Alt Breaks” collaborate with non-profit organizations to promote lifelong service through volunteering, education, and dialogue. To enhance our trip experience, we will partner with the Younger Lagoon Reserve as part of our education/volunteer experience. I know in the past we have worked with this program before so I was happy to arrange to volunteer with you guys again. So on my itinerary I have YLR down for a morning session Tuesday March 12th for 9-12 and for an afternoon session for Wednesday March 13 1-4. YLR focuses on natural habitat restoration which fits very well with the theme of my trip. Thank you! Kim Yapias
