I plan to collect 3 species of Carpenter ants (Camponotus hyatti, Camponotus clarithorax, Camponotus semitestaceus) to be included in a phylogeographic study of these species on the California Channel Islands and the mainland. I will collect ants by looking for nests under stones, looking for recruitment trails on trees, and branch beating vegetation (shaking branches over a sweep net). Collected ants will be placed directly into 95% ethanol. No live ants will be transported into or out of the reserve.
