The goals of the retreat will include creating a space where students from all groups working on mental health equity and basic needs at UCSB can form relationships that will lead into collaborations throughout the year; training students on project management, goal setting, communications, and leadership skills; and helping students to develop a shared vision across student organizations and other student-led initiatives. We have found that students who attend a retreat together are more likely to collaborate with the people that they attended the retreat with on projects throughout the coming year. These collaborations result in innovative solutions, joint grant-writing, co-hosting programs, and the formation of coalitions.
