The goal of my visit to the reserve is to continue biodiversity surveys of Lepidoptera. I will hang sheets in multiple locations around hastings and use a blacklight and/or mercury vapor bulbs (different light wavelengths attract different species) to attract moths to a white sheet. Since a complete survey of species is important, I will use a bucket trap with ethyl acetate to trap insects overnight, and then identify each individual to family and count abundances. I will keep most of the moths to later analyze phenotypic diversity.
