Field trip to
Chitcomini ’Árweh Wallaka-tka a UC Natural Reserve, Blue Oak Ranch
Goal: Experiential learning about the land, plants and animals, and how they shape Indigenous culture and the vital role Indigenous Stewardship plays. The field trip will also provide in person time for the participants to share and get to know one another.
Activities: Below is a potential framework for our time together at Blue Oak but the schedule be adapted to take advantage of guest experts and class participants willing to share their knowledge.
Friday, April 22
3-5pm Arrive and settle into lodging
5pm Welcome circle
6:30pm Dinner
7:30 Opening remarks and the Muwekma Ohlone context (Invited -- Monica Arellano Muwekma Vice-Chair & Alan Leventhal, TBC)
9:00 Fireside desert

• Community science and the California Phenology project (Someone from Susan Mazer’s group or Adina)
• Using Seek/iNaturalist observations (Adina)
• Making tea from the plants we find over the weekend (Sage La Pena)
