Environmental Writing: Green Communication Project Observations Via a series of short hikes, we will be exploring environments and ecosystems in which animals that are the subject of students' field guide entry and nonfiction article assignments live. Using the Grinnell Method of field journaling (visual and verbal reporting), students will be gathering contextual information about the local animals in which they are interested. Our work will be purely observational. These activities embody outcomes for the course, which are as follows: Beyond the assumed pre-requisites specific to this course, students, as scientists-, artists-, and/or policymakers-in-training, will practice and refine their capacity to: — represent environmental information in clear notational, oral, written, and visual forms for a variety of audiences (including specialists and generalists) — analyze environmental problems in current and historical contexts — articulate ethical and philosophical judgments about the scientific process with respect to environmental science and the communication thereof — revise writing by incorporating relevant advice for improvements — collaborate successfully on group tasks and class projects
