Steele/Burnand Anza-Borrego Desert Research Center
02 Sep, 12 PM - 05 Sep, 12 PM
I plan to communicate via Skype with my class and give them a virtual tour of the research center. In addition, I will collaborate with Gregory Lenczycki from SASSAS (The Society for the Activation of Social Space Through Art and Sound) on planning a possible sound ecology event (experimental new media) in the future at the desert research center.
I am teaching a summer session seminar at UCI and for the next three weeks we will be doing material related to The Media Ecology Lab project. The seminar is called "Growing up Digital in America" and for the rest of the summer session we will attend to the materiality of digital media, their geological sources, the e-waste they produce, and their contribution to what is called the anthropocene, the planetary era determined by technology. This week's unit is called Digital Desert: Simulation and Media Ecology; next week's unit is called Digital Materialism: Molecules and Micro-labor ; and the final week is called Digital Fossils: E-waste and the Anthropocene.
