Leading up to the live-streamed auction of the desert agave painting "Dead or Alive" and public viewing of Vanessa Rusczyk's original oil paintings at La Casa del Zorro Resort and Spa next Saturday, July 11, we are offering an artist talk with Vanessa tonight at 5:30 pm, hosted by ABF Trustee and Front Porch Revue maven Jimmy Smith. Vanessa is an award-winning artist - and a big fan of Anza-Borrego Desert State Park. The Park is one of Vanessa's greatest sources of joy and inspiration. About her paintings of plants native to the Anza-Borrego desert Vanessa says, “I want people to see the beauty around them in native habitats, but also to understand that these are more than just pretty plants. They are the basis of life support for all wildlife, from native bees to mountain lions. With more habitat being destroyed every year, it’s vital that backyards move towards supporting wildlife and that wild places are protected. Desert Lily by Vanessa Rusczyk, one of three desert lily paintings that will be on display and for sale on July 11 (oil on canvas, 40" x 30") My hope is that my paintings draw people in because of their vibrance, color, composition and technique, but then as the viewer takes a closer look, I want them to start asking questions about them. Appreciation and the desire to care for something usually starts with an initial attraction that is often hard to explain.
