We plan an undergraduate geology field trip. In and around the reserve and the State Park we will be looking at evidence of faulting along the San Jacinto Fault system, likely the Coyote Creek and Rockhouse Canyon scarps (the latter will depend on how close we can get with 2WD vehicles). We will also make day trips out to Joshua Tree National Park, sites in the Salton Sea Basin, and possibly the Pala gem mining district near Mt Palomar.
