I am requesting a one-day authorization for site access to collect a visual assessment on vernal pools at one point on the UC Merced Vernal Pools and Grassland Reserve (site: https://goo.gl/maps/t84qGQQBWVGRtmsM8). During this assessment, two researchers from Vollmar Natural Lands Consulting will record observations following the methodology for California Rapid Assessment Method for Vernal Pool Systems. These observations will include assessment of buffer and landscape context, hydrology, physical structure, and biotic structure. The data collected during this study will be used to improve the capacity of the State Wetland Program Plan and State Wetlands and Riparian Area Monitoring Plan by developing an ambient baseline assessment of vernal pool conditions throughout California.
