What do you plan to do on this visit to the reserve? We will take our BIO/ESS 159 Students out into the reserve to collect non-pollinator insects. Students will curate a collection of these insects that we will then add to existing vernal pool insect collections held in the LES teaching lab in SRE 4th floor. Specifically, students will use sweep netting techniques across grasses and also look under logs and decaying plant material. Insects will be collected into snap-cap vials, freeze killed, documented in spreadsheets, labeled, and pinned into a natural history collection. Students will be instructed to stay out of aquatic systems, as we are not interested in collecting aquatics and we do not want students disturbing pools.
