Kendall-Frost Mission Bay Marsh Reserve
24 Sep, 08 AM - 24 Sep, 11 PM
San Diego Youth Science and Mission Bay High School are partnering for the second year to deliver engaging, hands-on watershed lessons to elementary students from the Mission Bay Cluster. Over several days, different classrooms of elementary students will visit Kendall-Frost Marsh Reserve to explore its significance as a local wetland, vital habitat, and a site impacted by human activity.
This cross-grade collaboration features high school students from MBHS guiding field science stations for their younger peers. Through hands-on investigation and direct observation, elementary students identify native plants and animals, collect and analyze mud core samples, examine live plankton, and conduct water chemistry tests for salinity, pH, ammonia, and nitrate, making science authentic, accessible, and relevant to these students.
