We plan to have a first-year retreat for our incoming first year PhD students for UC Berkeley's Department of Environmental Science, Policy and Management. The purpose is to allow first year students to bond as a cohort, and to introduce first years to the ESPM community by inviting upper year students. Community building is a key part of our department program, and this will be a great opportunity to do this through group meals, games, and activities.
