This research symposium and writing retreat will provide an opportunity for graduate student participants to workshop written work (a dissertation chapter, article manuscript, MA thesis, or external research grant proposal); practice giving oral presentations of their research and receiving constructive feedback; and participating in structured silent writing time. We will prepare communal meals and take hikes in between work blocks to talk informally about professional goals and challenges, address questions about the hidden curriculum, and to build intellectual connections and community across cohorts. This retreat builds on the foundation of a monthly graduate student research workshop and weekly zoom co-writing sessions that Professor Loveman started during the pandemic and has been running since then.
