We plan to film the Costas Hummingbirds as part of our Spring sequence for our series. We would follow the story of a male Costa's hummingbird as it feeds on the first spring flowers, fights off the competition and build towards its extraordinary courtship display. Alongside this we would also show the female as she prepares the nest. We would like to film at Boyd Deep Canyon Desert Research Center as we believe this location offers a unique opportunity to capture all of the behaviour needed to tell this story. We would be working under the expert advice and guidance of David Rankin for this filming. Camera equipment/activities would be: Long lens camera and tripod to capture natural hummingbird behaviour Specialist macro equipment including macro lenses and small motorised slider to get more intimate footage of the hummingbirds High speed camera to capture hummingbirds in flight Small, quiet lightweight drone to capture scenic shots of the area Small extendable ladder pod to enable filming from a slightly higher perspective
