During this visit, there several tasks that I would like to accomplish. I plan to:
1) Monitor existing cages that contain Mexacanthina lugubris. Monitoring will involve downloading temperature data, conducting community surveys, and measuring the whelks inside the cage. After this survey, I will remove all hardware associated with the Mexacanthina cages and will release all caged whelks back into the site.
2) Secondly, I would like to deploy a new set of cages at a lower tide height to target a second range-shifting species, Acanthinucella spirata. I will then conduct community diversity surveys and will capture and tag whelks to place inside the cages. There will likely be 1 day of overlap when both sets of cages are deployed, as I will be very time-limited by the tide.
