James San Jacinto Mountains Reserve
24 Apr, 09 AM - 24 Apr, 02 PM
We will measure the microhabitat conditions in which the 3 Penstemon species are found. For microhabitat data, we will collect soil samples, take temperature readings of the soil, and note down the sympatric species, measure relative humidity and temperature near the plant. A small number of flowers and seed pods (less than 10% per plant) will be collected from 10 or fewer individual plants (max 15% of the individuals in a population) for quantifying the floral coloration signals and pollen quantification in the lab, and growing plants in the greenhouse. We will visit 3 populations per species to collect the data. No plant or animal populations will be affected during the observations.
