Ano Nuevo Island Reserve

09 Mar, 08 AM - 09 Mar, 10 AM

With the understanding that northern elephant seal conservation is a success story in terms of population recovery, we are aiming to create a photoessay that documents the field activities of researchers monitoring the weaners and remaining adult seals, before March 11th. Ideally, we would carefully accompany the researchers onto the beach and document processes like applying tags to seals or weighing seals, without getting in the way or otherwise disturbing the colony. We would also want to be careful not to take images that make it seem as though the researchers are harming the animals, since we understand this to be a common misinterpretation (and we are happy to learn more about other misunderstandings of research activities to avoid in our photoessay). There are no environmental manipulations that we wish to make; we would only be taking photographs.
